Canaan Rest: The Promise Realized

Canaan is NOT heaven, neither is it a type of heaven; and the Jordan River is NOT death, nor a type of death! The land of Canaan is the land God promised to Abraham and his offspring in perpetuity (Genesis 13:14–17). It is the land flowing with milk and honey to which God would deliver His people from captivity. It was God’s intention that Israel should enter into that land upon their deliverance from Egypt, but because of their unbelief, they wandered for 40 years outside of the land of rest (Hebrews 3:7–4:8).

The same thing is true for many of God’s people. They have been redeemed from the bondage of sin, but because of unbelief, whether through ignorance of all that God has provided in their salvation or just plain rebellion, they wander in defeat instead of entering into the victory and rest of “Canaan.”
